Home again: a simple meal, a grateful heart
There’s something special about coming home after being away for a while and stepping back into your own kitchen.
The fridge was almost empty, but it didn’t matter. A few leaves, grilled chicken, olives and basil became dinner, dressed with yuzu miso and yuzu juice I brought back from my travels. Tomorrow morning, the sourdough bagels I couldn’t resist bringing home will be on the table.
The real welcome, though, came from my neighbour: a vase of beautiful flowers and the sweetest little tomatoes from the garden. They found their way straight onto my plate.
It reminded me that good food isn’t about having everything. It’s about appreciating what you have, the people around you and the memories each ingredient carries.
Tonight, I’m simply grateful to be home.
