The perfect weekend
What makes a weekend truly perfect, you ask? Well, let me paint you a vibrant picture!
On Friday night, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting a dinner for a long-lost family friend. After years of lost contact, our paths crossed again a couple of weeks ago. Picture this: porcini mushrooms dancing with peaches, eggplant dumplings waltzing in a lush tomato sauce with a side of crunchy salad and a scoop of fior di latte ice-cream, served with mini kiwis and raspberries.
Our friend, inquisitive as ever, asked about our weekend plans. We casually mentioned another dinner party on Saturday and a family brunch on Sunday. Without missing a beat, our friend exclaimed, “Well, that sounds like the perfect weekend!”
And indeed it was! Imagine me in my kitchen, crafting delicious dishes, thinking about how our lovely guests would savor every bite. This, my friend, is my idea of a perfect weekend. The climax? The dining table, where friends and family revel in food heaven!
Saturday’s dinner for friends was a symphony of flavors—a crunchy salad, a hearty pasta dish with sweet roasted butternut squash and red onions, and a touch of nice and bitter catalogna. We wrapped up the evening with a cherished autumn favorite: schiacciata all’uva.
Sunday’s family brunch was a true feast. We began with fluffy scrambled eggs, elevated by the rare delight of Zürich truffles (yes, they exist, and unlike their Italian and French cousins, they won’t break the bank). We adorned the table with super sweet and ripe mangos, muscat grapes, a persimmon, a splendid selection of cheeses, some delectable dried meats, mortadella, juicy ham, and, to top it all off, a traditional Swiss Zopf.
Ah, that’s the stuff perfect weekends are made of!
